AREA 27 RACE TRACK
Area 27 is a world-class racetrack that was opened on June 4, 2017. The 4.83 kilometres long track is situated in Okanagan, in the hills of Oliver, B.C., at a 30-minute driving distance from Penticton, B.C. Having a width of 12.2 meters, the track runs counter-clockwise and can effectively handle high-speed cars. So, be ready for a super speedy ride!
Besides, the circuit provides a classic Grand Prix experience and is equipped with modern technology. Computer-modelled to fit with the natural geography, the Area 27 racetrack is planned with careful consideration to physical distancing regulations and other safety standards.
It consists of 16 corners of different elevations that make driving exciting, thrilling, challenging, a bit nerve-wracking but full of fun. Designers and builders have made the best use of the natural elevation and unique landscape of the area to provide the racers with a mind-blowing driving experience.
Huge variations in the path will allow you to enjoy a range of driving styles. Long straightaways further add to speed as well as help the driver learn to tackle challenging turns. Throughout the journey, you’ll be amazed at mesmerizing scenery in Canada’s sunniest climate. All these features make Area 27, a dream race track for motorsport lovers.
There are 16 total turns on the track. Turn 7 is banked at 11 degrees (uphill entry) and has a hustling downhill exit. At this point, you’ll learn to manage brakes. Turn 10 is a right-hand sweeper. Turn 13 is the fastest of all. In short, each turn has its own speciality and each offers a different kind of adventure.
THE HISTORY OFAREA 27 RACE TRACK
From concept to construction and opening, Area 27 Racetrack has an interesting history. It was designed and formed by Jacques Villeneuve; Formula One World Champion and his business partners. The idea took 25 years to be worked upon. The story started in 1978. At Canada’s preeminent driving academy, a Formula 2000 series was held. Bill Drossos was participating in this series when he first met David King and Jacques Villeneuve. Drossos suggested the need for a great racetrack in a resort community. Two years later, while participating in the GM motorsport series, as a professional player, Drossos met fellow driver Trevor Seibert.
In 2012, he found a land perfect for his intended racetrack. Thus, Drossos called his friends; Villeneuve, King and Seibert. After the reunion, together they formed South Okanagan Motorsport Corporation, now known as Area 27. The number “27” was selected to pay tribute to Canadian racing icon Gills Villeneuve, who proclaimed “27” as his own driving for Ferrari.
During the inaugural conference, the track hosted McLaren, Chevrolet and Subaru Canada.
